Chapter 21. SYSTEM INFORMATION

The Win32 API provides descriptive system data about the environment under which applications run. This information includes process environment variables, the time, the default locale settings for the system and user, the system color settings, drive information, the system power state, system parameters (including accessibility features), the version (and even build number) of the OS, the type of processor, and the computer name. Using system information, an application can correctly present the resources of the system to the user, respond to changes in the conditions of the system, and operate better within the system limits.
