Printer Information

Although Windows shields the application from direct dealings with the printer hardware, a few situations require it to retrieve hardware-specific information. For example, an application may need to determine the size of the paper, the number of paper bins, the graphics capabilities, and so on.

Windows has two functions, DeviceCapabilities and GetDeviceCaps, that provide the information that an application needs about a printer. The GetDeviceCaps function is a general function that provides information about displays, printers, plotters, and so on.
