Scrollbar Basics

Scrollbar controls are child windows. You initially create scrollbars using the CreateWindow function discussed in Chapter 3, "Creating Windows." Once created, scrollbars can either be placed on the program's client area or added as part of the window's border for scrolling the client area. Scrollbars placed on the client area are referred to as slider or trackbar controls. Trackbar controls provide a simple way for the user to give approximate input or for the application to give approximate feedback. Trackbar controls are part of the Common Controls provided in Windows 98 and Windows 2000. Figure 10.1 illustrates the different types of scrollbars and a trackbar. This figure points out the different parts of a scrollbar.
