Types of Dialog Boxes

The most common type of dialog box is a modal dialog box. When a modal dialog box is onscreen, the user cannot switch to another part of the application. By default, it limits access to the other visible windows of the application that called the dialog box. The user can still switch to other applications while the modal dialog box is displayed.

A dialog box is made system modal when you specify the WS_SYSMODAL style in the dialog box template. System modal dialog boxes also can be created by calling the SetSysModalWindow function.
