Windows Forms application (WinForms)—Windows form applications are used to deliver business applications and tools built on the Windows platform. You typically select a WinForms application template when you need to build a solution that leverages the resources on the user’s machine. This means the application is installed and users expect it to run more responsively than the typical web application. WinForms applications can be standalone or data driven (often client-server). WinForms applications might connect to web services and work in both connected and unconnected scenarios.
