Summary

VDI is the hosting of the client operating system in the datacenter, which is then accessed remotely by users from their devices. Architecting an actual VDI solution requires many components to enable and manage the connections to the client virtual machines, but other virtualization technologies are also needed to dynamically create users’ desktop environment including their customizations, data, and applications.

At the start of this chapter, I gave you a large number of scenarios where VDI can be a solution, but remember I also said other solutions might be more cost effective while giving the same or better experience. In Chapter 13, I break down all the options and give advice on which is the right technology in the different scenarios.
