Whether you find the term “private cloud” exciting or terrifying, I hope this chapter has demonstrated the capabilities it offers—to the IT department in particular and to the organization in general. Easier provisioning, higher utilization of resources, better accountability, less management overhead, and a focus on the application translate into greater efficiency and productivity for the business.
It’s not easy. I wish it were a matter of installing some software and clicking Next a few times. In reality, a properly enabled private cloud requires a lot of up-front effort: deploying all the System Center 2012 components, connecting them, and offering services. Fortunately, the Cloud Services Process Pack greatly helps these efforts with detailed guidance and tools; and once this initial effort is done, the user’s day-to-day work will be drastically reduced, enabling IT to focus on new services and initiatives rather than keeping the lights on and manually creating virtual machines.
