Summary

This is a very large chapter, and yet it only touches the surface of many of the most important capabilities. Management of your virtualization solution is critical to its success, and SCVMM 2012 delivers a fantastic management capability—not only in terms of the hypervisors but also through integration with storage and network fabrics. One feature that organizations should definitely look at is the capability to automate with Windows PowerShell, which is even more relevant in the next chapter, which describes integration with System Center Orchestrator and System Center Operations Manager.

One topic not covered in this chapter, and an area that particularly benefits from new capabilities in SCVMM 2012, is implementation of a private cloud and end-user self-service portals. This chapter contained numerous references to clouds, but I’ve saved the specifics for the next chapter, where you will see exactly what a Microsoft private cloud implementation looks like and learn all about SCVMM cloud capabilities and the end-user self-service options and capabilities.
