Step One: Understand the Environment
The first step of the VMM planning process is to understand the environment in which the deployment will take place. To complete this step, review the relevant design documents for information systems in your organization, perform discovery sessions with the owners of systems, and review the status of the systems in real time. Items that you should pay particular attention to during this phase of the design include the following:
• The current Active Directory forest design
• The current network topology and available bandwidth
• The existing virtual infrastructure, including locations of already deployed virtual machine hosts and current virtualization technologies that are being used
