Protecting Nondomain Joined Hyper-V Hosts

With DPM 2012, an organization has the ability to protect nondomain joined Hyper-V hosts servers through the use of certificates. Many organizations have Hyper-V hosts managing edge servers, servers in their demilitarized zone (DMZ), servers in branch offices, or utility servers that are not part of the organization’s Active Directory domain. By leveraging certificate-based backups covered in Chapter 10 under the section “Deploying the Protection Agent Using Certificates,” the organization can target Hyper-V hosts (and the guest sessions running on the host servers) simply by creating a certificate-based relationship between the DPM 2012 server and the target Hyper-V host system.
