Preparing the Data Protection Manager Server
Before the DPM installation can be started, the base Windows operating system needs to be installed. With the Data Protection Manager 2012 release, the preferred server operating system is Windows Server 2008 R2. However, as noted in the “Supported Operating Systems” section earlier in this chapter, Data Protection Manager 2012 can also be installed on Windows Server 2008.
After the base server operating system has been installed and the latest updates have been applied, the next task is to join the server to the domain and then ensure all of the software requirements are met, as noted in the “Software Requirements” section earlier in this chapter.
