Step One: Understand the Environment

The first step of the DPM planning process is to understand the environment into which the product is being deployed. To complete this step, you should review the architecture for information systems in your organization by reviewing their relevant design documents, performing discovery sessions with the owners of systems, and reviewing the status of the systems in real time. Items that you should pay particular attention to during this phase of the design include the following:

• The current Active Directory forest design

• The current network topology and available bandwidth
