Correlation Engine Service

A common complaint about Exchange 2007 management pack was about the number of alerts it generated. The most common cause for too many alerts was the same root cause problem affecting multiple Exchange 2007 components, each of which would generate its own alert or set of alerts. The Exchange 2010 Management Pack introduced the Correlation Engine service to address this and reduce alerts.

The Correlation Engine service acts as a buffer between events that would raise alerts and Operations Manager. The Event Correlation service intercepts state change events and evaluates them based on the Exchange 2010 health state model stored in Operations Manager.
