Exploring the SQL Server Management Pack

The SQL Server Management Pack is produced by Microsoft to monitor the health of SQL Server 2005, 2008, and 2008 R2 installations via monitors and rules. Subject matter expertise from Microsoft on SQL is passed in the form of the management pack, on what should be monitored, for example, within the database or database engine. The management pack provides out-of-the-box views to access the default performance rules that capture metrics, such as database free space, transaction log free space, connected users, and so on. In addition, Microsoft provides a number of out-of-the-box reports, for example, detailing SQL Server Lock Analysis.
