Configuring an EXE Application

In many cases, the software setup will be packaged as an executable with an EXE extension. These cases will require some analysis to determine how to deploy them in an unattended fashion. This also makes it more difficult to do automatic detection of the installation state and uninstallation.

For purposes of illustration, the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.4 will be used. This is a full-featured protocol analyzer, which allows administrators to sniff network traffic and analyze protocol traces. It is deployed using an EXE and is available for download at the following link: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=4865.
