Determining Software Requirements
A Configuration Manager 2012 primary site requires Windows 2008 64-bit SP2 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Standard, Enterprise, and Datacenter Editions are supported.
The Configuration Manager Site Server must be installed on a member server in a Windows Active Directory domain. It is commonly recommended to keep the installation of Configuration Manager on a separate server or set of dedicated member servers that do not run any other applications that could interfere with normal operations.
