SMS Provider
The SMS Provider is a WMI provider that facilitates accessing and manipulating the Configuration Manager Site Database. All communication from the Site Server and the Configuration Manager Administration Console goes through the SMS Provider.
Note
The Windows Automated Installation Kit (WAIK) is installed with the SMS Provider to facilitate OS deployment–related functionality.
This component can be installed in several different locations. It is typically installed on the Site Server along with the Site Database in small- and medium-sized deployments, as the resources needed by the SMS Provider can be managed within the Site Server hardware.
