Applications

Applications in Configuration Manager 2012 are fundamentally usercentric, allowing users to be associated with devices and then targeting applications at users. This allows software to follow users, no matter which device they’re using.

Applications support a wider array of constraints and options than packages, including detection of the installation, requirements such as processor or language for installation, and other application dependencies. This allows the administrator to control exactly what systems are allowed to install the application.

The application terminology is similar to the package terminology:
