Background on System Center Orchestrator

System Center Orchestrator was acquired by Microsoft as a product called Opalis in 2009/2010. Opalis was around for more than five years prior to Microsoft’s acquisition. Although Opalis did what it did very well, it was limited in its integration with other products, even its support in 2010 was for Microsoft’s 2003 and 2005 products, not even the 2007 and 2010 line of Microsoft products. As such, the acquisition by Microsoft and the investment—Microsoft has the ability to invest in terms of product integration—has been key to the increased value of the product.
