Planning Your Configuration

The first step in planning a SQL Server cluster is determining the type of hardware to be used and the mode of operation in which the cluster will run. The cluster can comprise systems with many hardware configurations, and it can operate in active/passive mode or active/active mode. The mode determines the amount and type of hardware you will need and should be used to justify the hardware costs to management.
