What Is Service Broker?

Service Broker is a framework included in SQL Server 2005 you use to develop and manage asynchronous messaging applications. An asynchronous messaging application is a layer between an initiator application, a producer of information, and a target application, a consumer of information. Because these two applications may not be online at the same time or may not even be in the same network environment, asynchronous messaging is used to enable sharing information between them. To facilitate sharing, Service Broker uses message queues stored in a SQL Server 2005 database to temporarily store messages from the initiator application.
