Replication Concepts

Before jumping into configuring and using replication, let’s look at a few replication concepts. First we’ll look at the "publish and subscribe" metaphor and the three types of replication, then we’ll examine replication data and data propagation, and last we’ll discuss replication agents.

Replication Components

SQL Server 2005 replication is based on the "publish and subscribe" metaphor first used to implement replication in SQL Server 6.0 and enhanced in SQL Server 7.0 and SQL Server 2000.
