Business intelligence translates raw data into usable information — exactly what business managers need to make intelligent decisions. Whether a manager is overseeing 100 different projects, or 100 different retail stores, she must be able to view the key information. By creating cubes from databases, you can convert raw data into usable information.
The Business Intelligence Development Studio (BIDS) is the central tool used to create SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS) projects. You can use it to create, modify, and manage cubes. In this chapter, you create a cube and gain a better understanding of the details that can be added to a cube from within BIDS.
