Starting, Stopping, and Configuring the Microsoft Search Service

Microsoft Search is a service that performs the necessary management and search tasks for full-text indexes and their related catalogs. These indexes and catalogs are created automatically when you start and stop the search service. You can view the current state of Full-Text Search in SQL Server Management Studio by connecting to the server’s Database Engine. In Object Explorer, expand the server and Management nodes. If the service is running, you will see a green circle with a right-facing triangle in it (similar to a play button). If the service is stopped, you will see a red circle with a square in it (similar to a stop button).
