Understanding Analysis Services

As mentioned earlier, a data warehouse is a “place for people to access their data.” Without Analysis Services, a data warehouse reporting system consists of a relational database at one end that stores data values, and a reporting application at the other end that displays those values. Analysis Services fits between the relational database and the reporting application. It functions as an intermediate layer that converts relational warehouse data into a form that makes it fast and flexible for creating analytical reports.
