Replicating via the Web (Internet)

SQL Server 2000 replication can be performed over the Internet using push, pull, and anonymous subscriptions for snapshot, merge, and transactional replication. For Web-based replication, you use the same wizards and Transact-SQL statements used to create standard publications and subscriptions. The only difference is the topology and the setup at the subscriber for pull and anonymous subscribers. The basic requirements for all types of subscribers are

  • The publisher and distributor need a direct connection (that is, cannot be connected via the Internet).

  • If a firewall is in place, the publisher and distributor need to be on the same side of the firewall.
