Replication Agents

Following are three major components in transaction replication used to carry out the process of distributing data from the publisher to each subscriber:

  • Snapshot Agent— Prepares schema and data files to be used to synchronize new subscribers to a publication.

  • Log Reader Agent— Reads transactions marked for replication in the publisher's transaction log and inserts them into the distribution database.

  • Distribution Agent— Moves the replicated transactions from the distribution database to all subscribers of the publication.
