Managing Logins

Perform the following steps to manage SQL Server logins.

NOTE

If you plan to use Windows Authentication, the Windows 2000 user or Windows 2000 group must exist prior to adding the Windows 2000 user or Windows 2000 group to SQL Server. Use Windows 2000 administration tools to create users and groups.

If you plan to use SQL Server Authentication, SQL Server's authentication mode must be configured to SQL Server and Windows. If you plan to use only Windows Authentication and you want to prevent users from using SQL Server Authentication, SQL Server's authentication mode must be configured to Windows only.

To change the authentication mode setting, use the SQL Server Enterprise Manager. Right-click the server and select Properties ...
