Installing Multiple Instances of SQL Server

One of the new features of SQL Server 2000 is the ability to install multiple instances of SQL Server on the same computer. Multiple instances of SQL Server means that more than one copy of SQL Server exists on the same computer. Multiple instances run simultaneously and independently of one another. Client applications connect to each instance of SQL Server. Essentially using instances is like having SQL Server on different physical servers except that the multiple instances live on the same server sharing the same CPU, disk space, and memory resources.
