Power View Requirements

You can categorize Power View requirements as server-side requirements and client-side requirements.

Server-Side Requirements

Power View server-side requirements include feature installations of SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2010. Power View is a SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services feature available in SharePoint mode only and as part of the following SQL Server 2012 Editions:

  • Enterprise Edition
  • Business Intelligence Edition
  • Developer Edition
  • Evaluation Edition

Power View requires a SQL Server 2012 Reporting Services server configured in SharePoint mode. Integration with SharePoint 2010 requires the Enterprise Edition of SharePoint.

Best Practices
Microsoft recommends applying Service Pack 1 to SharePoint 2010 if you will be integrating SQL Server 2012 BI features.

Client-Side Requirements

There are two main requirements on the client-side: A browser and the Silverlight version. Power View is supported by Silverlight 5 and above in Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Table 59.1 lists the browser versions supported by Power View.

Note
Power View does not support the InPrivate browser feature of Internet Explorer.

Table 59.1 Power View Browser Support

Browser Browser Version
Internet Explorer v7, v8, v9 32-bit, and 64-bit
Firefox v7 32-bit
