Summary

Extended Events is an extremely useful tool in troubleshooting SQL Server problems. In SQL Server 2008, the feature didn't have the graphical tools in place to create and modify event sessions, so it wasn't as widely adopted as was hoped. However, in SQL Server 2012, the new user-interface for Extended Events has provided a huge step forward in usability. With the new graphical user interface, users can easily create and modify event sessions without the need to know all the underlying DMVs, as was previously needed.
