Analysis Services Tools
Two additional applications are part of the SQL Server 2008 suite of products. These are the tools that you use to work with Analysis Services. When you are responsible for an Analysis Services cube, or UDM, you perform two basic roles. On the one hand, you act as a developer, designing and creating the dimensions and cubes. On the other hand, you act as an administrator, keeping deployed cubes up to date and performing properly. In a large-scale implementation, it is common for these two roles to be performed by different people, or even for multiple people to be involved in each role.
