Assembling Named Sets

Throughout this book, you have been assembling sets along query axes and within complex expressions. Instead of assembling a set with each use, you can define a set and then reference it using an alias. Such sets are referred to as named sets.

Named sets encourage the reuse of sets based on a consistent definition. Like calculated members, named sets can be defined at the query, session, and cube levels. For the same reasons of consistency in definition and accessibility, you are encouraged to implement named sets as cube-scoped (for example, within the MDX script).
