Accessing Extended Relatives

Navigation is not limited to immediate relatives. Analysis Services expands the familial analogy to provide access to extended relatives from across the hierarchy. A given member’s parent is one of its many ancestors extending up the levels of the hierarchy back to the root member. Relative to its ancestors, the given member is a descendant and may have descendants of its own. Two descendants of divergent lineages are each other’s cousins. These extended relationships relative to a given member are illustrated in Figure 8-2.
