Log Shipping

Log shipping is a high-availability technique that has been available since the first editions of SQL Server. The purpose of log shipping is to maintain at least one additional copy of the database in order to protect from a hardware failure or damage to the database. Based on applying an unending chain of transaction logs to a database on another instance, log shipping is also the least complicated of all of the availability techniques. One of the core differences between log shipping and database mirroring is that although database mirroring can only maintain a single copy of a database, log shipping is able to maintain multiple copies for increased redundancy.
