Endpoints

Endpoints control the ability to connect to an instance of SQL Server as well as dictate the communications methods that are acceptable. Acting very similar to a firewall on the network, endpoints are a layer of security at the border between applications and your SQL Server instance. The generic syntax for creating an endpoint is:

CREATE ENDPOINT endPointName [ AUTHORIZATION login ]
[ STATE = { STARTED | STOPPED | DISABLED } ]
AS { HTTP | TCP } (<protocol_specific_arguments>)
FOR { SOAP | TSQL | SERVICE_BROKER | DATABASE_MIRRORING } (<language_specific_arguments>)
