Parallel Query Configuration Options

Two server configuration options—maximum degree of parallelism and cost threshold for parallelism—affect the consideration for a parallel query. For single processor systems, these settings are ignored. On multi-processor systems, you may need to change the default settings for one or both of these options, but this should not be done arbitrarily. Proper settings depend on the number of available processors and the type and volume of activity the system will experience.
