Summary

Policy-Based Management is a feature available in SQL Server 2014 that allows you to manage your SQL Server 2000 through SQL Server 2014 servers by creating policies that can be used to enforce compliance to best practices or to report on out-of-compliance servers. It provides a highly granular, flexible, and extensible toolset that allows you to manage all aspects of your SQL Server. Properly used, it is a great tool to enforce standardization in your environment and to ease the management burden.

The next chapter, Chapter 15, “Security and User Administration,” explores the importance of implementing robust security standards and practices in your SQL Server environments and how to go about doing so.
