Configuring Email Notification
The SQL Server Agent can send email notifications that are based on SQL Server events. The only available Mail System in SQL Server 2014 is Database Mail. SQL Mail, which was available in prior version of SQL Server, was removed in SQL Server 2012.
Database Mail has been the recommended mail solution for the SQL Server Agent. It was added in SQL Server 2005, and it utilizes Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) instead of Extended MAPI to send mail. This simplifies email setup and has many benefits, including the following:
