What’s New in Upgrading SQL Server

The installer program for performing installations and upgrades for SQL Server 2014 is not much different from the installer provided with SQL Server 2012, except for some minor changes and reorganization.

Note

The focus of this chapter is on upgrade options and best practices rather than a screen-by-screen walkthrough of the upgrade process. An upgrade installation is not much different from a new installation. See Chapter 8, “Installing SQL Server 2014,” for a detailed walkthrough and description of the installer screens and options.
