Semantic Search

New in SQL 2012 is Semantic Search. During the indexing process, if a column is marked for Semantic Search, statistics will be collected on the words/tokens or phrases in that column so that Semantic Search operations can be done against them.

Semantic Search enables you to search for documents stored in rows for other documents that are similar to that document. Similarity is determined consulting by the statistics gathered during the index process, and comparing the words indexes with a dictionary of words and statistics that are shipped in the Semantic databases. Semantic algorithms are then applied to the statistics gathered and the statistics found in the Semantic database to determine the following:
