Database Mirroring

Another failover option with SQL Server is database mirroring. However, Microsoft has announced that database mirroring will be deprecated in future SQL Server releases and advises not to plan much more with database mirroring but to use AlwaysOn Availability Groups or log shipping instead. For folks who aren’t planning upgrades to SQL Server 2014 very soon, database mirroring is still very viable and extremely stable for both HA and distributed workload needs. We’d say that you are fine for a few years yet. As mentioned earlier, the AlwaysOn capabilities actually utilize much of the technology components that are in database mirroring. Database mirroring has effectively paved the way for AlwaysOn Availability Groups.
