Best Practices

  • Use the Content Editor Web Part to streamline the addition of text information from rich text sources.

  • Save commonly used Web Parts as DWP files so that they can be imported into sites.

  • Evaluate third-party Web Part products for needed functionality not available with the default SharePoint Web Part templates.

  • If in a development environment, or if inclined to study .NET development, look into the idea of developing custom .NET Web Parts for SharePoint.

  • Take advantage of the additional Web Parts for Office 2003, such as the Project 2003, Access 2003, and Infopath 2003 Web Parts.

  • Use the Page Viewer Web Part to display external websites within SharePoint areas or sites.
