Summary

Migrating to the SharePoint 2003 technologies can be a straightforward process for organizations using a relatively “vanilla” version of SharePoint Team Services and/or SharePoint Portal Server 2001. Tools are available for performing the migration, and items that do not migrate are well documented.

For organizations that have done a lot of customization to their SharePoint Team Services and/or SharePoint Portal Server 2001 sites, additional planning and more than likely some development work need to be done. Both Microsoft and third-party resources are available to assist in this effort. After the migration is complete, the wealth of new features and capabilities available will be worth the effort expended in the migration process.
