Best Practices

  • Where possible avoid upgrading from a previous version of Windows to Windows Server 2003 because a clean Windows Server 2003 installation is less likely to have configuration and support issues.

  • SQL Server 2000 Standard Edition will meet the needs of all but the largest organizations. Use SQL Server 2000 Enterprise if failover clustering is required.

  • Install SQL Server 2000 before installing SharePoint Portal Server 2003 when they are being installed on the same server because SharePoint Portal Server 2003 needs to be provided with database connectivity information during installation.
