Adding the List Items Menu and Linking to Items

If you worked with list views in SharePoint 2007 then you might recall that the list items menu (LIM) was referred to as the edit control block (ECB) menu. The ECB menu provided similar functionality to the LIM in SharePoint 2010, including the option to open a document or list item for edit or view, along with other actions specific to items in lists and libraries. Additionally, in SharePoint 2007, using an out-of-the-box configuration, it was only possible to apply the ECB to a single column within the view, typically the name column, which was viewed as a limitation.
