Why Customize a View

There are arguments against customizing an XLV’s XSLT, which are similar to those arguments against customizing content pages in SharePoint. Basically, customized versions no longer inherit from the original source, or parent. However, there are also some valid arguments for customizing XSLT. For instance, when you customize XSLT you are able to effect changes to the current XLV without affecting other XLVs inheriting from the uncustomized version of the XSLT file. Customizing an XLV’s XSLT means you can then add additional XSLT style sheets and templates and manually make inline adjustments to the XSLT.
