Modifying Data Types

Chapter 22 highlights differences between modifying column types and demonstrates the process around modifying the date and time data type in XLVs and DFWPs. Generally, modifying data types in XLVs is fairly limited compared to modifying data types in DFWPs. If you must change a data type in an XLV then you should change the data type on the source list column and refresh the data source for the current XLV. Alternatively, if you want greater flexibility around manipulating data types in views, or view instances, then you should instead consider using a DFWP to display data.
