Scenarios for Using the XLV
The main reasons for using XLVs are for simplicity, Web interface usability and editing capabilities, and portability (you can save XLVs to the site collection’s Web Part Gallery from SharePoint Designer and maintain active reference to the source list). Another reason for using XLVs is when you want to inherit views using the per location view settings in SharePoint Server 2010 (part of the Metadata Navigation and Filtering site Feature). XLVs are also the default view rendering technology used for External Lists.
