Scenarios for Using the DVWP (DFWP)

DFWPs are more powerful than XLVs and, although you can use DFWPs to display list and library data, the likely scenario for using DFWPs is to display and present external data sources, such as data sourced from non-SharePoint databases and Web services. DFWPs also provide greater flexibility when you configure data types. If you want to include additional filtering and sorting options then the DFWP includes options to add XSLT filtering and toolbars, including the Grouping Toolbar.
